Brief Nature Of Job
This role is responsible for the overall Dietary, Clinical, Administrative and Academic affairs of the department; setting the Mission and Vision of the department, framing policies and procedures. Dietetic services have been actively involved as an integral part of patient care activity of the hospital running dietary services 365 days a year. The roles oversee the functioning of the dietary services to ensure quality food is provided to indoor hospital dieted patients. The role also performs administrative responsibilities of over 150 food service staff and maintaining healthy work life balance with the responsible for the dietary needs of approximately 2300 Indoor patients every day. There are various kinds of diets provided to the patients based on the disease and dietary requirements calculated on the basis of nutritional screening and nutritional assessment done by the Dieticians in their respective wards. Initially, it was started as a facility to take care of indoor patients only. With years it has diversified extensively into three distinct categories.

Dietary Services at AIIMS –
- Combination of Centralized & Decentralized Food Service
- General Wards: Normal Diet to indoor patients is served from Food Trolley.
- Private Wards: Bulk cooking done in the kitchen. Individual layout of trays for each patient is done in each floor pantry.
- Modified Diets: Therapeutic Diets served in disposable,compartmental trays with cover, based on the dietary guidelines.
- Enteral Feed: Like Naso-gastric, Jejunostomy, feeds are prepared and sent in labeled sterilized bottles.

Event- “Build a healthy life style through food and fitness”
- Organized “Healthy Lifestyle Exhibition 2008” on 3rd September, 2008 with the theme “Build a healthy life style through food and fitness” for young school children for incorporating holistic knowledge about ‘balanced nutrition’ covering information on food, nutrition and healthy lifestyle. which was attended by over 1000 students of various Public Schools of Delhi. The above nutritional awareness initiative enabled young children to make healthy lifestyle modifications for prevention of degenerative diseases.
The event was widely covered by leading daily newspapers of India – Hindustan Times, Mail Today, Metronow, Navbharat Times, The Pioneer, The Statesman, The Tribune, Aj samaj, Mahamedha & T,V. Channels- Doordarshan, Aaj Tak, Zee news to name a few.
