Times Group Think Tank — Mobility at Scale: Building Resilient Vehicle & Equipment Supply Networks
India’s vehicle market is climbing fast — from 5.16 million units in 2024 to an estimated 8.36 million by 2030, a 7.3% CAGR (Grand View Research). That growth isn’t just more cars; it’s more complexity and procurement pressure across the supply chain.
EVs make it even more urgent. India targets 30% of passenger vehicle sales to be electric by 2030, with registrations already around 2.08 million units in 2024 (NITI Aayog; S&P Global). Batteries, power electronics, BMS and semiconductor-heavy assemblies have shifted from optional to critical sourcing challenges.
Auto component investment is surging — ₹25,000–30,000 crore (US$2.9–3.5B) expected by FY26, focused on localisation and EV-specific parts (IBEF). Meanwhile, chip content per car is projected to jump 40%, from about US$1,000 today to over US$1,400 by 2030; for EVs, US$1,500–3,000
(PatentPC). Semiconductors are the new choke point, forcing leaders to rethink inventory, dual sourcing and long-lead procurement.
Heavy equipment is another demand driver. India’s construction equipment market is set to grow
from US$6.6B in 2022 to US$10.1B by 2030 (Grand View Research; India Briefing). This builds domestic supplier ecosystems ready for export.
Put simply: higher volumes, deeper chip content, EV localisation, booming heavy equipment and AI- led supply intelligence all point one way. CXOs need to rewire supply strategies now — or risk margin hits and delivery shocks later.
This Exclusive Times Group Think Tank Discussion, powered by TTI (a Berkshire Hathaway
company), Mouser Electronics, and Ray-Q, will bring together decision-makers and transformation leaders shaping India’s automotive, mobility and heavy equipment future for a closed-door, high- impact discussion on these critical imperatives.
