Building platform resilience: Making sure your platform set up matches your business goals

2020 was the year which change the dynamics of global ecosystem. It has been a year of challenges, paradigm shifts, and rapid adaptability in the face of uncertainty. Covid 19 had walloped many industries in the last year, however streaming platforms or over-the-top (OTT) platforms on the other hand had remarkably enhanced the content consumption and creation ecosystem. It transformed the entire landscape of media & entertainment industry. From gradual increase to a sky-high boom, changed the growth trajectory of such platforms. This inspired the platforms to step up their game, innovate and present audiences with a variety of content to beat those lockdown blues.

A sudden revolution in digital space, has accelerated and amplified the ongoing shifts in consumers’ behaviour, and increase in willingness to pay for subscription models without compromising on the quality of the content, which would not otherwise have reached for many years. It is time for these platforms to keep the momentum up and going for the years to come.

It is an era of co-opetition, wherein the convergence has blurred the lines between media and technology companies. While building state-of-the-art infrastructure, businesses must re-configure the delivery mechanism assuring that the quality of service (QoS) and quality of experience (QoE) are not compromised at any given time.

This virtual roundtable will take a deep dive into how companies can unlock the potential of OTT everywhere. Business and technology factors work together to create a successful OTT service, and to look at the entire OTT ecosystem to provide a thorough understanding of the opportunities, challenges, and the roadmap ahead.

Currently heading global marketing operations under the ALTBalaji umbrella, Divya brings with her 20 years of experience in marketing and brand building across industries — digital, broadcast, telecom and music. She has an impeccable record in launching brands in the sector of broadcast, telecom, music and OTT; rejuvenation of brands, consumer lifetime value journeys, creating revenue opportunities, product designing and designing sales currencies through consumer insights across her earlier stints. AT Zee Group, she managed OZEE and Ditto marketing and subscriber base and was part of the leadership team that launched ZEE5 and stabilized the business. At Percept, she has grown the digital base 100% YOY and Onground attendance 125% growth YOY via various marketing and ticketing opportunities. At Tata Docomo, she was part of the core leadership team that conceptualized the product proposition “Pay per second” and launched the brand thereby in the first year itself achieving 3X targeted subscriber base. She has also worked with Barista, the retail coffee chain in her earlier years and created the term “The Barista generation” across the country as a slogan!

Gulshan has alo enjoyed successful stints as the General Manager, SEA and India at Outbrain, Chief Revenue Officer at Komli Media, Director of Sales Strategy for Yahoo! India, and Director of Product Marketing for Yahoo! Search Marketing in the United States. He has also worked in Europe, North America and Asia and for leading companies like Ernst & Young, McKinsey & Co and IMG.

A young and emerging face in India’s startup community, Pulkit Agrawal is the Co-founder of Trell, India’s Largest Lifestyle Social Commerce Platform. At Trell, he holds the baton for the company’s vision, strategic course, technological initiatives, and business development.

Pulkit is an Electrical Engineering graduate from IIT, Bombay with an inherent penchant for coding. In college, he envisioned combining his two hobbies and started conceptualizing a business around the same, something that would soon take shape as India’s first-ever mobile-based visual blogging platform, Trell.

Within 12 months of launch, the platform received more than half a million downloads and had over 100,000 monthly active users. In 2020, when Trell launched social commerce with an aim to connect influencers with brands these figures saw a rise and presently are at 100 million downloads and 45 million monthly active users respectively.
